  • One of the most interesting buildings in Vermont is the Breeding Barn at Shelburne Farms. It is off the main property and requires either local knowledge or luck to find it. It is one of the largest wooden structures in the northeast. It is generally open if you walk in. The floor is dirt but the ceiling is this intricate maze of wood. Go to the north end and look straight up and this is what you will see. You will also see this if you happen to be in the right hotel in Taipei, Taiwan where they have printed this as a mural and put it on the ceiling of several quest rooms. Shelburne, Vermont. February, 2008.

  • In the woods of Grafton, NY we have a small family camp on a very small lake (probably really a pond, but they call it a lake). Just down from our camp is this staircase. It's all that remains of whatever was there before. It's in a very, very dark spot but with a tripod and a long exposure it looks like the sun is shining on it. I love the overgrowth and the mystery of where these led to. Grafton, New York. June, 2010

  • This is the now missing Crown Point Bridge. Opened in 1929, closed in October 2009, blown up in December, 2009. For a long time my wife and I had always wondered if this thing was safe as the rust was everywhere. Taken from Crown Point Historic Site, New York and looking east. Crown Point, New York. July, 2007.
See some of the history on what was a historic bridge:

Church Street Morning. Memorial Day Weekend, 2008.

  • Another weekend morning exploration. In the low lands ice had formed on the trees. To get the ice to stand out it needs to be back-lit. I drove by this field and loved the tractor sitting out there. November, 2010. Jericho, Vermont.
